Ford forms new subsidiary, commits $4 billion to autonomous tech

Ford has recently made headlines with the purchase of the Michigan Central Station. Today they have unveiled exactly what they plan to put there: an all new subsidiary called Ford Autonomous Vehicles LLC.

This new company will be charged with fulfilling Ford’s promise to launch a self-driving commercial vehicle at scale in 2021. While many companies have been rushing to release autonomous tech and building tremendous amounts of hype, Ford’s approach has been much more realistic and subdued. Last August Ford CEO Jim Hackett publicly stated that there will always be a place in the market for manually-driven vehicles, and that the future of the tech holds many unknown possibilities and directions.

We’re excited to see the future of Ford in autonomous development!
